Digital supervision enables new possibilities

Digital supervision

Enhanced comfort and safety in institutions and homes with contactless real time monitoring of sleep.

Somnofy is a non-intrusive solution for home, senior apartments or nursing homes. It uses multiple built-in sensors to detect environmental parameters.

Somnofy features:

  • Detect if a person is in bed or not
  • Detect if the person is sleeping or awake
  • Continuous measure of body movement and respiratory rate*
  • Local or remote access for monitoring in various locations
  • Easy to install in established building

Somnofy also offers sleep analysis and more advanced analysis to see how vital signs vary over time.

*Somnofy products and services are not medical devices, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Detailed patient follow up

Somnofy offers a number of important analysis that can be used to assist decisions about health conditions and to get early warning if something changes*.

Detailed user follow-up offers many new possibilities

Somnofy conducts automatic measurements of the user and the information is sent to the cloud every 30 seconds. The data is then processed in advanced algorithms before finished analyses are made available to users both on mobile devices and on the web. Historical data on sleep quality and respiratory rate are well suited to indicate the development of someone's general health. By measuring over time, you can determine what normal sleep and respiratory rate is for a user.

Measurements that deviate from an established "normal situation" can indicate a change in the state of health and provide a basis for examination and increased attention. Historical measurements and the status of both sleep and breathing give health workers new opportunities for increased user follow-up. The user's sleep / breathing history provides a good picture of the status before any measures are initiated. After initiating measures, one can see how these affect the user's / patient's sleep and respiratory rate. In this way, Somnofy can be a valuable tool in the improvement work.*

Digital home monitoring

Somnofy is well suited for digital distance monitoring.

Somnofy is well suited for digital distance monitoring.

What is unique about Somnofy is that it collects data every single night without the service recipient having to have any equipment attached. The service provider can follow how the service recipient sleeps and breathes every single night without the service provider even having to be physically present.

Example of use.

  • If the service recipient lives far away, you can use Somnofy to monitor the status of the person in their own bed, awake or restless. This can make the use of resources easier and more targeted.
  • Use of Somnofy can help to provide increased insight into the service recipient's state of health. Deviations in sleep patterns, restlessness and movement patterns at night and larger deviations in breathing frequency can provide a basis for increased attention and mapping.
  • One can follow the sleep patterns, restlessness and breathing rate of former drug addicts to detect unwanted lifestyle changes at an early stage*.

Ability to integrate Somnofy with established alert and alarm systems (Sensio Pocket and Dignio) and to connect external devices to measure SpO2 and heart rate (requires bluetooth connection)*

Somnofy

Contactless sleep monitor

Sleep disorders are very common; they are so widespread that the Norwegian National Institute of Public Health has described it as one of the country’s most underestimated public health problems.

VitalThings wants to contribute to increased attention to good sleep as a crucial part of good health - along with nutrition and activity. Somnofy is a result of more than 8 years of research and is the world’s most accurate contactless sleep monitor. It has been developed in close collaboration with universities and the medical environment in Norway.

Somnofy measures sleep, respiratory rate, restlessness and a variety of other data without the user having to wear anything. It is a valuable support tool for anyone concerned with the user’s health.

Remi profilbilde
Doctor Remi Andersen has used Somnofy to monitor residents at Ullernhjemmet since 2019.

The sum of the following three factors is crucial to our health: Nutrition, activity and sleep. In addition, user participation is important in today's healthcare system. Somnofy measures both sleep quality and quantity. It has given me a much better basis for - together with residents and relatives - to assess how sleep is experienced in relation to how it is actually measured. This has made it easier to reduce and stop using unfortunate sleeping pills and and evaluate other measures to improve sleep in residents with sleep disorders. By looking for abnormalities in the respiratory rate in elderly patients, we have been able to detect and start treatment early in infections.

Real-time monitoring of sleep

Somnofy provides increased insight and security at institutions and at home with real-time measurement of both sleep and breathing. This allows the night-time caregiver to prioritize residents who are struggling to fall asleep, rather than disturbing those who are sleeping soundly. Continuous follow-up of the respiration rate can help to detect a deteriorating health condition and infections faster than usual and contribute to a shorter response time.* Custom alerts enable quick and safe physical inspection when needed. Signals and data from Somnofy can be integrated with standardized alert systems.*

Detailed patient follow up

Doctor Remi Andersen has used Somnofy to monitor residents at Ullernhjemmet since 2019. He points out that it is the sum of three things that is important for our health. Nutrition, activity and sleep. "User participation is important in today's healthcare system. By using the new sleep monitor, we can measure both sleep quality and quantity. Using Somnofy has given me a much better basis for - together with residents and relatives - assessing how sleep is experienced compared with how it is actually measured," he says. This has made it easier to cut back on and stop using unfortunate sleeping pills and and evaluate other measures to improve sleep in residents with sleep disorders. Remi also emphasizes the importance of being able to follow the respiratiry rate over time.

Private supervision

Somnofy can be used by private people who want to look after their loved ones. In this video we will meet Karin and her husband in their home. They have used Somnofy for several years and their son is looking after them by using the Somnofy app.

By supervision the family can make a huge impact in taking care of the elderly by watching them from a distance every day. Looking at their sleep, respiratory rate and movements during the night they are able to pay more attention when needed*.

*Somnofy products and services are not medical devices, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Digital real-time supervision

Somnofy provides increased insight and security at institutions and at home with real-time measurement of both sleep and breathing.

On both stationary and mobile devices it is possible to get a clear overview of multiple rooms.

  • In bed/out of bed
  • Respiratory rate
  • Sleep/awake
  • Movement
  • Oxygen saturation and heart rate (by using a wireless SpO2 sensor)

This allows the night-time caregiver to prioritize residents who are struggling to fall asleep, rather than disturbing those who are sleeping soundly.

Color coding and direct messages will indicate status changes on as many devices as needed.

Integration with messaging and report system are possible.

Somnofy Analytics for detailed patient follow-up

Powerful tool
Somnofy Analytics gives you advanced analytics for sleep stages, sleep index, movement, sleep-onset, average respiration rate and much much more. Every new feature that VitalThings launch in Somnofy Analytics will work on data that you have collected from day one.

Advanced mode
In advanced mode Somnofy Analytics will give you access to all the raw data from the sensors as well as give you correlation between data. For example if you sleep better in a cold room, or wake up due to noise in the room.

Sleep diary
Somnofy Analytics does also work as an advanced automated sleep diary.

Validated against Polysomnography with high precision

Sleep Medicine, a highly ranked journal specializing in sleep, has accepted the validation study of Somnofy performed by researchers from the University of Bergen and Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway.

Highlights

  • Somnofy using non-contact sensors and machine learning was validated against polysomnography
  • Sleep stage differentiation showed substantial agreement with polysomnography
  • Total sleep time and sleep efficiency exhibited excellent and good reliability compared to polysomnography

Objective
To validate automatic sleep stage classification in the commercially available sleep assistant Somnofy against polysomnography (PSG).

Conclusion

Somnofy showed high accuracy staging sleep using non-contact sensors and machine learning.
